The Barry Waterfront Consortium is committed to working with the local community and is always keen to hear your ideas about the future of Barry Waterfront.

Results of the public exhibition
Over 750 people attended a two day public exhibition hosted by the Barry Waterfront Consortium in June, completing a total of 241 questionnaires.

Members of the public were able to learn about the proposals, put their questions to the development team, and feedback their views on the future of Barry Waterfront.

Of those that completed the feedback questionnaire, the majority of people (82%) agreed that the remaining areas of Barry Waterfront should be regenerated.

Also, a large proportion of respondents (70%) agreed with the mix of facilities being proposed by the Consortium – the proposals include leisure facilities, retail, public open space and parks, and a diverse range of residential units.

What you said
A high level of support was expressed for the scheme, particularly: the link road between Barry Island and Barry Town, café quarter, waterside public realm, family housing, park areas and a new hotel.

Examples of other issues that were raised during the consultation included:

•    Requests for the Barry Island link road to be built as a priority
•    The need for more leisure facilities in Barry, particularly cafes and restaurants, for use by local people as well as tourists
•    Maintaining the history of the Waterfront through public art or cultural facilities

There were also a number of other questions raised by local people, such as the use of the educational site, the proportion of social housing within the scheme, and the use of the wharf for water-based activities, which are issues outside of the Consortium’s control.  However, the Consortium is working in partnership with the relevant stakeholders to ensure these items are properly considered.
